This delicious looking sushi was from Koto Japanese Steakhouse and Sushi.

I would go on record saying they have the best sushi in Fort Wayne.

At least I think so.

This wasn't my plate.  I have never been adventurous enough to go a la cart.

Beautiful food.

Photo a day for a year

Today's subject:

faceless portrait

I had a few photos in mind when I saw the subject for the day.  I decided on this one because I have neglected writing a post about the day I shot this picture.  I wanted the post to be wonderful and glorious, but never found the words to write it.

I chose this photo in hopes that it will spark a little something in me and I can write about the story of the day that I took it.

Follow up wedding post later this week, then. *wink*

Fort-wayne-wedding-photographer-jones-11web

This is Davyd Jones.  He is getting ready to marry the beautiful Hannah Moord, now Jones.

When I started shooting weddings, I was a little nervous to take pictures of the groom and groomsmen getting ready.

I always thought that guys didn't really care about the pictures and they might be a little put out about a girl in their space taking "silly" photos of them getting ready.

From what I have experienced, nothing could be farther from the truth.  Especially with this groom and his groomsmen.  They were a real treat.

Now I think I like taking photos of the guys getting ready more than I do the girls getting ready.

There is something there that you don't normally see.

The ties being tied, wristwatches fastened, and cufflinks in place.

Watch for Hannah & Davyd's wedding post later this week.

Wedding dress shopping

This Saturday I went wedding dress shopping for my sister's wedding with her, my mom, and my sister's mother-in-law to be.

It was better than I expected.

We went to One Fine Day.

fort-wayne-photographer-photo-a-day-project-wedding-dress-shopping-one-fine-day-4web

I haven't been wedding dress shopping since I shopped for mine fourteen years ago.

My mom and I decided we wanted to wedding dress shop for ourselves.

What girl doesn't want to put on a big, beautiful gown once in a while?

fort-wayne-photographer-photo-a-day-project-wedding-dress-shopping-one-fine-day-2web

The moms picked out dresses they wanted her to try, and like a good sport she tried them on.

fort-wayne-photographer-photo-a-day-project-wedding-dress-shopping-one-fine-day-3web

She looked lovely in all of them.

I think she might have found what she wanted.

And don't worry...it wasn't this one...

fort-wayne-photographer-photo-a-day-project-wedding-dress-shopping-one-fine-day-1web

I wouldn't let you see the one that made the cut for the day.

This is the one she tried on for my mom.

And she wasn't quite sure how to "be" for pictures...

so she decided to rock this dress mermaid style.

Fish face.

Before too long, we will watch her walk down the aisle looking lovely as ever.

I am looking forward to it...

only nine months...and five days away!

Makes me want to break out my wedding dress to see if I can still fit.

Highly unlikely.  :)

future pajama pants

Photo a day for a year

today's subject: project

Again, I have been slacking posting pictures everyday.

I should have used that as my "project" subject.

ha!

I love to sew.

I just don't.

I don't make time for it,

space for it,

or

time for it.  :)

For many years I felt like I didn't really have the space to sew.  I needed a table, a place where I could spread fabric and supplies out.

We bought a large table.

I also didn't really have a sewing machine.

Technically, I did.  However it was so old it was made of cast iron and I had no idea how to use it.

Recently, I purchased a sewing machine at an estate sale from close friends of the family.

I finally got the guts to pull it out to see if I could figure it out.  With a ton of help from my husband, I was able to figure out the bobbin situation - which I have always found intimidating for reasons unknown to me.  He also helped me figure out exactly how to thread it.

I was on my way!

Except I felt very rusty.

I took classes for a while about ten years ago just for fun.  I made a winter snow suit for my six month old son...who is about to turn 11 in a couple weeks. *sigh*

So, last week I did the best I could with the patience that was given to me and recovered a pillow.

It didn't turn out the best...but it wasn't horrible either.

I need to work the kinks out.

My next project is either a rice heating pad because I love them and don't own one

or

pajama pants....

either for me or my daughter.

I haven't decided who gets them yet...I suppose it depends how they turn out. :)

Here is the fabric I will be using for the pjs:

fort-wayne-photographer-photo-a-day-project-fabric-1web

Of course, I love the city scape design

and it is very soft.

My daughter loves it too.

However, it was the end of the bolt of fabric from the store, so we both can't have them.

Stay tuned to see who gets them

and

how my rice heating pad turns out.

Oh, Edmund…

Here we are, the 1st of February - well into the photo a day project.

Today's subject: candy

When I was young, on of my favorite movies was a cartoon version of

The Lion, The Witch, and The Wardrobe

{Narnia}

I could watch it everyday.

Sometime in the last five years, my mom bought me something for Christmas.

And she has almost every year since.

If you are a fan of the book or the movie, you know that Turkish Delight must be delicious.

From The Lion, The Witch, and The Wardrobe:

"It is dull, Son of Adam, to drink without eating," said the Queen presently. "What would you like best to eat?"
"Turkish Delight, please, your Majesty," said Edmund.

The Queen let another drop fall from her bottle on to the snow, and instantly there appeared a round box, tied with green silk ribbon, which, when opened, turned out to contain several pounds of the best Turkish Delight. Each piece was sweet and light to the very center and Edmund had never tasted anything more delicious.

Edmund tried to remember that it is rude to speak with one's mouth full, but he soon forgot about this and thought only of trying to shovel down as much Turkish Delight as he could, and the more he ate the more he wanted to eat, and he never asked himself why the Queen should be so inquisitive.

At last the Turkish Delight was all finished and Edmund was looking very hard at the empty box and wishing that she would ask him whether he would like some more. Probably the Queen knew quite well what he was thinking, for she knew, though Edmund did not, that this was enchanted Turkish Delight and that anyone who had once tasted it would want more and more of it, and would even, if they were allowed, go on eating it till they killed themselves. But she did not offer him any more.

I have yet to taste any of the Turkish Delight for myself.

lessons in slacking

It was bound to happen with 365 days to manage.

I have been slacking.

big time.

I am not sure what day I am on in my 365 photos in 365 days...

all I know is, I haven't been doing it.

The great thing is this:

who cares?

When I decided I was going to do this project I knew I wasn't going to be able to post a picture a day everyday for the next year.

I would have liked to,

but I am not going to dwell on how much I suck because I didn't do it.

I am just going to jump right back into the thick of things.

That is the only thing you can do.

Or, quit of course.

So, today's subject is:

your ideal travel destination

That is a hard subject for me because I am dying to travel, always.

I want to go here, there, and everywhere.

But for today, I decided I could narrow it down.

Where would I want to travel?  What sounds appealing these days?

fort-wayne-photographer-photo-a-day-project-travel-1web

Austria

I know as a photographer, some photos often do not do certain things justice...like nature.

I have seen many photos of Austria and I want to see it for myself, in person.

And while I am in Austria...I will hit up Italy...France...

and I will try to stay up on my photos.

movies – day eighteen

Day eighteen's

subject is:

your favorite movie.

That. is. impossible.

I love so many movies.

Here are some of my favorites:

fort-wayne-photographer-movies-52-week-photo-project2web

to that list I would have to add:

Finding Forrester

Man on Fire

Usual Suspects

Snatch

So many great movies.

Narrowing it down to just one would be too hard.

That would be like naming

your favorite song.

I would like to hear some of your favorites!

sidewalk & green apple

Day sixteen & seventeen of

365 photos/365 days

subjects are:

sidewalk

&

apple

This is our beloved "sledding tree".

It sits on top of a steep, yet very small hill.

Perfect size for little kids to sled on.

fort-wayne-photographer-sidewalk-52-week-photo-project2web

...and our sidewalk leading up to it.

The last apple in the house.

fort-wayne-photographer-apple1-52-week-photo-project2web

I have recently discovered eating

milk chocolate covered pretzels

and

green apple pieces

together

is delicious.

I talked my daughter into peeling apples for me the next time I want to make homemade applesauce.

It's my grandmother's recipe

and it is amazing.

We also had apple turnovers tonight for dessert

because I have been craving pie.

I decided turnovers are just as good.

And they were.

Tomorrow's subject: favorite movie = extremely difficult!

grocery items

Day 15

365 photos/365 days

subject: grocery {items}

It has been over two weeks and some of you are gracious enough to have stuck around to look at my randomness everyday.

you know who you are.

you are too kind.

Back to our subject...grocery...items.  The official subject is grocery.

I even took my camera to the grocery store.

I was distracted.

I forgot camera existed.

Therefore, today's subject is grocery items.

fort-wayne-photographer-grocery-52-week-photo-project2web

Goat cheese, strawberries, milk, and...questionable something in the bag.

Grapes.

fort-wayne-photographer-grocery2-52-week-photo-project2web

The container of ketchup taking up a good amount of space on the top shelf in the door

is purchased solely for my youngest son

who has recently been spotted

eating ketchup by itself with a fork.

The boy loves his ketchup.

To do this week:

Use that goat cheese

in black bean, avocado, and goat cheese wraps.

Delicious.

Day 14 with a twist

Day 14

subject: traffic light

Zesto sign

fort-wayne-photographer-Zesto sign editedweb

I decided I was going to deviate from today's intended subject.

While I don't have anything against traffic lights,

I do take issue in going out to shoot one...

now that I am in my pjs

and in my warm house.

I thought of photos I had that was close to "traffic light"

and thought of the Zesto sign.

It made me happy

and

hopeful

that summer will be here soon.

Say it with me....summer will be here soon...summer will be here soon...summer will be here soon...summer...

I'd like a large banana shake please.
