Johnny Appleseed Festival

"Johnny Appleseed, he was quite a guy.  A hero, guaranteed...as American as apple pie!"

Funny what you remember from 5th grade choir class.

This last weekend was the 39th annual Johnny Appleseed Festival.  People from all around come to join in the festivities.  In my adult life, I am not sure I have missed a year of it.  I have finally figured out how to enjoy the festival with my kids and still see and taste everything I wanted to encounter.

This year I went by myself - the first day.  Then I took my boys with me the second day.  (My daughter is 14 years old and obviously too cool to go...yet requested food brought home)  It was perfect.

Here is a look at my first day:

The weather was perfect both days, and the turn out showed that it was.

I used to think the antique section was ridiculous.  Now, I find all kinds of fun little gems.  I must be getting old!   ;)

I am a fan of Edgar Allen Poe, so naturally I liked this...

I didn't buy anything this year, which was a little disappointing.  But it was fun to look.

I loved this.  It almost made it's way home with me.

There was a vendor with amazing flowers.  I almost bought some to brighten up the house, but it is always hard for me to justify spending money on flowers that will be gone in a week.  So, I appreciated them while they were there.

There was a little impromptu band that set up and started playing.  They were from out of town.  It was a fun little something different.

Those dreads!

The sights and smells is everything it ever was - fall goodness.  I am grateful we have such a wonderful kick off to Autumn.

Until next year, Appleseed friends...

We Remember

Today, we remember.

By this time that September 11th, I was eagerly waiting for my husband to get home from work.  I wanted to make some sense of what was going on.  I was 4 months pregnant.  I began to wonder what I was doing, bringing a child into this world.

Today, we remember those that are gone.

Outtakes of a Two Year Old

This is Madison.  She cracks me up.

She's two years old, going on twelve.

Sometimes she gives her mom "the look", so I asked to see it.

And there it is in all it's glory!

So great!

She was such a doll!  More of her family's photo shoot later this week!

Pre-K first day

Today was my youngest child's first day of school.  If you know me, you know I have issues with my kids going to school.  I know it is obviously best for them, but if I had it my way, I would keep them with me always.  It goes without saying that today was particularly hard since he is my youngest, my last.

First day of school picture

And he is just so darn cute, who wouldn't want this kid as a sidekick all day?

He was all set with his new shoes he loves so much.  They light up, so that is extra exciting.

New Shoes

He made it a point to show everyone and ask his teacher if she liked them.

Before we made it to the school, he asked if I could just stay at school with him.  This child knows how to break me down and tear my heart into pieces.  I told him I would "be there for field trips, we would get to go to the pumpkin patch together"...as my heart lay shredded in pieces on the floor.  How did this happen?  How did he get so old so quickly?  My mind took me back to when he was born, early and so little.  How is it that he is going to school already?  Why do I have kids when they just break my heart?....

I had to tell myself:  It's only two and a half hours for crying out loud.  He doesn't want to run errands with you anyway.  He is going to have a blast.

And he did.

First day of school

Luckily, I made it out of the school and to my car without crying.

That was as good as it got.  I cried like a baby driving away, but I made it to the car and that was my goal.  :)

He had a wonderful day and that made it all worth it.  He loves his teacher and promptly reported to me that he chased a girl at recess.  "You don't know Mariah, mom." he told me.  And so it begins....

Hug your babies tight.  They are only ours for a second.  Blink your eyes and they will be graduating high school.

Bridal Shower Fun

My sister is getting married November 9th of this year.  This past weekend we had a bridal shower for her that turned out to be a very good time.  She wanted something non-traditional.  No stupid games (that's right, ladies.  I said it.), no silly prizes...just fun.

Bridal shower

She had a great idea to get canvas and let people paint.  She recently moved into a house with a lot of wall space and not much to put on the walls yet.  She thought it might be a fun way to get some unique pieces.

Bridal shower

Everyone was such great sports, taking a crack at painting...or just watching and drinking was ok too.

Things were a little wild, but that was to be expected.  Elyse wanted to have her picture taken with everyone that came to the party.  When we started with our sister-in-law, I took a nice picture and then jokingly said, "Ok, guys...now make out."  And this is what I got...

And that was pretty much where that started...

It was nice to see longtime friends that I haven't seen for a long time :)

I think my favorite part, though, was hanging out with her soon to be mother-in-law and Grandma Jane.  These ladies treat my sister like she is already family, like a daughter and granddaughter.  It makes me so happy that she will have these ladies in her family.  They are funny and sweet and I love them.

It wouldn't be a party without my awesome mom.  I came down with the flu the day before the party, so she had to pick up my part of the party and take care of business.  She handles it like a boss, like she is ;)

I absolutely love the picture on the right.  My mom's smile makes me laugh because I know how hard she is laughing right there.  My sister - always hilarious!

I was glad I drug my butt out of bed to make it.  I didn't want to miss it.  We can all hope that it is a once in a lifetime event.

I told you she was hilarious!

I love you, Elyse.  I hope the weeks to come fly by in the best way and all of the wedding details fall perfectly into place.  Your wedding will be beautiful and your marriage even better.  Best wishes for now and always.   oxoxox

Happy Birthday, to my awesome Mom

Today is my mom's birthday.  She is one of the strongest people I know.  I am lucky to have her as a mom.

Here she is with her favorite child ;)

She is a fun mom and awesome grandma.

A huge congratulations is in order for her.  She just received a long overdue promotion, just in time for her birthday.  I know I am her daughter, but my heart swells for her.  I am so proud of her and what she has accomplished.  She is the hardest worker and most dedicated employee that I know.  To say she deserves her promotion is a huge understatement.

I am so very proud to have her as my mom.  I celebrate her birthday not only for her, but for me as well.  I mean....where would any of us be without our mom?

Happy Birthday to the best mom ever!

For Sale: Sister

A sweet baby girl was welcomed into the Cox family this week.  This family is so much fun.  I get to shoot some funny shots with them.  Here is a sneak peek from today.

Big Sister, Caitlyn was such a good sport.  I actually had to ask her to make that face.  She cracks me up!  I can't believe there are now three beautiful ladies in this family!

In case you missed it, here is another fun shot we did before Cristina was born.

I can't wait for future fun with these girls!  More newborn pictures of Cristina coming soon!

Back to School

Well, the dreaded day is here.  I've been trying to not think about it since the beginning of August, but I know all too well that the days go by too fast, and here we are.  The first day of school.

First Day of School 6th grader and 8th grader

I feel like every year from here on out is so bittersweet.  Or maybe just bitter.

Max is starting 6th grade, Middle School.  I can't trick my mind, telling myself he is still in Elementary School...so it's not so bad.  Nope.  He's headed into the big time now.

Alyssa is starting 8th grade.  One more year of Middle School.  One more year that I don't have to say I am a parent to a High Schooler.

No, I didn't get up and cry for 2 hours this morning.  Ok, I did.  How lucky am I that Vinny doesn't start school until September 4th?

Super lucky.

How heart wrenching will it be next year when they are all in school full time...my baby in Kindergarten...my oldest baby in High School...so heart wrenching that I refuse to think about it.

I have mixed feelings about the parents that can't wait for their kids to go back to school.  I enjoy my children.  Don't get me wrong, we have our moments.  Overall, I love having them around and spending all day with them.  How could I want them to go back to school?  However, those parents probably aren't crying their eyes out and upset the first day of school.  I am a little jealous that I can't just let them go without the break down.

Our Summer was fast and full of fun.

Swim lessons for 8 weeks, our favorite.   My fish.

We went to see Rise of the Guardians at Foellinger Theater one movie night.  I forget how lovely it is there and how fun family movie nights are.

We spent the Fourth of July at the Tin Caps game and got to enjoy the fireworks there.

Tin Caps game and Foellinger Theater movie night

Excuse the poor quality of the pictures.  I was living life this summer and not behind my huge camera.  Many of these were taken with my phone.

We also went to Carribean Cove in Indianapolis.  I wanted to go to a water park that was close to home.  We had never been.  I read some reviews that weren't the greatest, but I thought we would try it out anyway.  We had a blast!  They remodeled and it was beautiful.  There weren't many people there, so that was nice too.  We stayed overnight and went to Cheesecake Factory for dinner for the first time.  Delicious and bad for you and delicious.

I love my kids more than anything and I will be counting down days to breaks and days off and looking forward to next summer already.

Three kids

They are the best, no doubt about it.

I have friends that will be just as heartbroken as I am as their kids go to school.  Many hugs, friends.  It isn't easy to let them go.  Hug them tightly and tell them how much you love them everyday.  They are only ours for a bit and before you know it they will be all their own.

Until next summer...

lil Russ

This week I met little Russell.

He is such a cutie pie.  He made me consider having more babies.  Ok, I wouldn't go that far, but I might have thought about kidnapping him for the day or something.

3 month old baby pictures

As I am nearing the end of the summer with my children, it makes me reflect on this age with them and how fast it all went.

New mommas, cherish this time.  It doesn't last long.

This outtake might be my favorite photo of them all.  I can't get over how cute he is.

Those lips!!!

Thank you, Katie, for a lovely afternoon this week.  I hope to see much more of your family in years to come.
